Dear friends. It's been a while since we last wrote in these pages. For personal reasons, we've been away and have not wondered back to music in a while. Something profound changed in the world and we are still processing the loss of an icon. Despite this, on our return we found a beautiful gift. The gift of the unexpected. A band that is making it's debut worldwide through a movie called "No One Knows about Persian Cats" which opens in the US on April 16th.
Queridos Amigos.
Here's a snippet:
In our constant search for the best alternative rock in the world, this movie is the mother lode. Iran, a culturally and economically rich country, with some of its best minds living in exile, has always been an intriguing place. The bourguise of that country in the 70's were the richest and best educated people we've ever met but after the Ayatollah revolution threw out the sometimes ruthless regime of the Shah, Iran has become as isolated as Cuba and society as pre-historic as Afghanistan under the Taliban.
Some of the best guitar players in the world have come out of the middle east, specially countries like Pakistan and Iran. Now, in this world where indie comes to represent the new frontier, this band called "Take It Easy Hospital" composed of a singer with a uniquely trained voice Negar and her boyfriend Ashkan, attempt to form a rock band in a country where Western music is forbidden by the authorities for being un-Islamic. This is a perfect movie plot, but it is made more dramatic by the fact that it is shot in real time, in secret, and the protagonists eventually had to leave the country in order to save their fledging careers and themselves from imprisonment.
YRock Internacional is proud to support these independent-minded musicians whose only crime is to love music and want to share it with their contemporaries. Musicians all over the world find it difficult to make a living out of what they love but in the case of Take It Easy Hospital and another 2,000 or so bands in Iran, the obstacles are more than economic.
We would like to share a song with our listeners. It is from the soundtrack of this excellent production and it is by the band in the center of the movie. Hope you all enjoy this and support the bands in Iran. Every little bit of promotion and visibility helps and it is our hope that someday, the world of music becomes one where there are no borders, no laws against music, no music moguls trying to exploit young idealists, and no stereotyping the various people who just want to listen to music, whatever that may be.

The Yellow Dogs is an underground indie rock band from Tehran which formed back in the end of 2006. Culture of people in Tehran and ideology of Iranian government forced them to hide in their tiny bohemian practicing room (SAGDOONI), which they had made by their own hands. SAGDOONI (farsi for doghouse) was the place that they found their own style of independent music. Playing live concerts have always been their dream, working together with their best friends The Free Keys to prepare a garage/basement into a mind blowing venue for their underground concerts. The avant-garde underground music scene that they made in Tehran was a legendary. During the recent years they didn’t stop making and playing music’s, although the situation in Iran gets harder and harder as the government becomes stricter on underground music. Not giving up, they dream is to travel the world and play their music to different people with different tastes.
